What to listen for
- 01
Overlap
Full-duplex means both sides can talk at once. Listen for the model keeping its thread when it is interrupted, rather than stopping dead.
- 02
Backchannels
Short "yeah", "got it" and "ooh" sounds while the other person is still speaking. Turn-based voice assistants can't do this at all.
- 03
Mid-sentence pauses and breath
Natural pauses land inside sentences, not only at punctuation. Breath sounds are a good sign the timing was learned from real speech.
- 04
Emotion over a long turn
Laughter and raised volume are easy to show once. Holding an emotion for 15 seconds or more is the harder test.
Questions about the Dessa demo
Are these official Dessa samples?
Yes. Every title in the list comes from Block's official Dessa page, checked on 2026-10-26. Block describes them as recordings of live conversations; they were selected by Block, and no independent benchmark has been published.
Can I download the recordings?
We don't offer downloads — the audio belongs to Block and plays on its page. Check Block's terms before reusing any of it.
Why don't you host the audio here?
Linking keeps the credit with the source and always points to Block's current version. If Block adds or removes recordings, we update this list and the date above.
